January 2019 - Days before leaving for New Zealand my brother wanted to get out and climb. The Peak District is where he fell in love with climbing. It seemed like he was holding on to the old days for a moment. We headed toward Robin Hoods Stride, near Matlock on a cold winter morning. The mist was clinging to the river banks and the frost was set deep into the fallen leaves. Once there we aimed for Dry Wit in a Wet Country; a seemingly bare slab apart from the hanging crack near the top of the wall. The base is uneven and surrounded by boulders. Cal tried this climb over the course of two days but without enough time to commit we left. It was on these days that I reignited my love for climbing. My brother left me with a quote “The weighted foot never fails.” Something that not only you can use whilst smearing your way up a sketch slab but also something to ponder in life. Trust your feet and move forward or else you’ll simply fall.
