“This project documents the people and streets of Edinburgh over two years. It is a physical representation of adapting to city life having grown up in the countryside.”
For 20 years I lived and grew up in the Peak District surrounded by rolling hills and woodland. In August 2018 we decided to move to a small flat in the very heart of the Windy City, Edinburgh to live and study. As a quiet, some what introverted person I found the hustle and bustle of city life a shock to the system. I found myself locking myself away in my flat to hide from the strangers and noise of the city. Though, with camera in hand I forced myself to document life just as I did back home in the hills, however rather than photographing the silence of the landscape I was photographing the beating heart of the city. The people. Over the course of two years I found that I began to enjoy life in the city. I valued the moments that passed by silently and often unnoticed. As the seasons passed so did the different comings and goings of the city. Summer was vibrant and full of life, whilst winter was filled with wrapped up locals rushing to and fro to escape the Scottish chill.
Now moving flat somewhere outside of the city centre I feel it appropriate to share the culmination of two years work and move on to a new project.
I give you The Windy City…
